Adolf Hitler (1889-04-20 - 1945-04-30) was the leader of the Nazi Party (from 1919) and Führer (dictator) of Germany from 1933 to 1945. A highly effective and skilled orator and propagandist, he inspired and mobilized many followers. He was appointed Reichskanzler (Reich Chancellor) by President Paul von Hindenburg on 1933-01-30 and assumed the twin titles of Führer und Reichskanzler (Leader and Reich Chancellor) after Hindenburg's death on 1934-08-02. Under his leadership, Germany started World War Two and committed the Holocaust, a genocide that killed millions.
